Arriving in Helsinki

Helsinki can be easily reached from anywhere in the world.

By plane

Helsinki-Vantaa Airport is situated 19 kilometres from the centre of Helsinki and can be reached by car in approximately 25 minutes. You can also take taxi, train, the Finnair city bus or Bus 615 to the Central Railway Station. HSL also provides a train connection between the airport and the Helsinki Central Railway Station. Tickets can be purchased from ticket machines.

By train

There are excellent train connections to Helsinki from all major towns in Finland as well as from Lapland. There is also a daily train service from St. Petersburg and Moscow. The Central Railway Station is a landmark itself in Helsinki.

By bus

Buses from all around Finland arrive to the central bus station, from the largest cites approximately every hour.

By ferry

There are daily ferry services to Helsinki from Estonia and Sweden, see e.g. Tallink Silja Line, Viking Line or Eckerö Line. All the ferry companies offer also a possibility to take a car with you. 

Transportation in Helsinki

Helsinki has a well working public transport system consisting of bus, tram, metro, local railway and ferry services. The public transport system is comfortable and reliable. For tickets to public transport, you can use the HSL Mobile ticket app to buy single tickets or day tickets. Tickets are also sold in selected parking ticket machines within the city centre.

Helsinki Region Transport (HSL) provides public transport services between Helsinki Airport and the metropolitan area.

HSL also provides a train connection between the airport and the Helsinki Central Railway Station. Tickets can be purchased from ticket machines.

Taxis and car rentals in Helsinki

Taxis are easy to hail in the city centre except during the busiest periods. Taxi stands are conveniently located throughout the centre.

The new taxi law came into effect in Finland on 1 July 2018 and price of a taxi ride are no longer regulated but the fare depends on the company. Price of a journey can change depending on the day or even the time of day. Taxi drivers must inform their customers of their policy before the trip begins, either verbally or with a visible sticker or other notice, physical or digital. Fare counters are no longer required in taxi vehicles. Please, ask the price and the payment options of the journey from the driver in advance.
